When most people think of ultrasound, the first thing that comes to mind is its use during pregnancy to check on the health of the fetus. At Dr. Kronberg’s we put ultrasound energy to a different use — tightening the skin on your face and other areas.
It’s called Ultherapy, and it delivers effective skin tightening but in a completely non-invasive manner.
What does Ultherapy do?
Ultherapy lifts, tightens, and tones the skin on the face and neck. It is excellent for reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles and producing overall improvement in the firmness and smoothness of the skin. The procedure is safe, non-invasive, and is cleared by the FDA.
Who could use Ultherapy?
The best candidates for Ultherapy have mild to moderate skin laxity, but not enough to merit any sort of surgical solution yet. Dr. Kronberg uses Ultherapy to reduce the appearance of jowls, drooping eyebrows, heavy eyelids, double chins, and loose skin on the neck and chest.
How does it work?
An Ultherapy session takes from one to one-and-a-half hours. The ultrasound energy is delivered through the epidermis (outer layer of the skin) into the dermis (the second layer). When the ultrasound energy enters the dermis it converts to heat. When the body senses heat in the dermis it assumes there has been a wound, and this initiates a wound response. The fibroblasts are responsible for this, and the heat makes them more active. This response is the production of new collagen and skin cells. Over time, these new cells improve the tone and texture of the skin. And this wound response can be triggered without the least bit of damage to the surface of the skin.
Is Ultherapy painful?
We advise our Ultherapy patients to take 800 mg of ibuprofen about 45 minutes before their treatment. From there, patients report a mild prickly or warm sensation during the procedure.
There is no recovery time, as patients can return to their normal activities immediately after their appointment.
