The appearance of scars can bother many, especially if they are in visible areas of the body. Dr. Esta Kronberg offers scar removal treatment at her office in Houston, TX to help those who want to get rid of their scars.
What is Scar Removal?
Scar removal, also called scar revision, reduces the prominence of scars that result from injury or previous surgery. Although many scars fade over time and become barely noticeable, disruptions to the healing process can cause them to become red, raised, indented or otherwise deformed.
The prominence of a scar depends on the type and severity of the injury that caused it, the patient’s age, and overall health and ability to heal. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your scars, Dr. Kronberg offers a few different treatments to make them less apparent.
Scar Removal Treatment
There are many different types of scars. Depending on the type of scar your treatment program will be customized to your needs.
- Acne scars can be treated with lotions, chemical peels, IPL Laser (Photofacial) and Fraxel Laser.
- Keloids and Hypertrophic scars can be treated with steroid injections and Lasers.
- Stretch mark scars can be treated with the RegenLite Laser.
IPL Photofacial® Laser for Scar Removal
The IPL Photofacial is a non-invasive laser procedure to freshen the skin. It eliminates red and brown skin discolorations, which are caused by sun and tanning bed damage. It treats the lesions and the scarring of acne. Treatments take about 15-30 minutes and patients do a series of 5 treatments, 3–4 weeks apart.
At our office we use a non-buffered 50% concentration, 0.9 pH, medical strength Glycolic Acid 50% to quickly, gently and microscopically exfoliate the skin. The peels help eliminate poor tone, mottled pigmentation, fine lines, scars, acne, and blackheads. It also controls oiliness. Glycolic Peels are painless treatments with no down time.
The Fraxel® laser produces thousands of micro columns of treatment zones. It penetrates deep into the dermis; but just as important are the areas left untouched around the treated skin. For every micro zone treated intensively; it leaves the surrounding skin unaffected and intact. This “fractional” treatment allows the skin to heal much faster.
The Regenlite is a pulsed dye laser that is used to help improve the appearance of stretch marks and scars. The treatment is painless and patients experience no down time. Dr. Kronberg may perform multiple treatments depending on the specific area that is being improved.
