IPL Photofacial is a non-invasive laser procedure to freshen the skin. It eliminates red and brown skin discolorations, which are caused by sun and tanning bed damage. It treats the lesions and the scarring of acne. These painless treatments take about 15-30 minutes and patients do a series of 5 treatments, 3–4 weeks apart.

What Are the Benefits of IPL Treatments?

IPL treatments offer a variety of benefits for someone experiencing a wide range of skin problems. At her Houston practice, Dr. Kronberg uses IPL to remove red spots, diffuse redness, and help with acne or rosacea. Treatments can also help smooth uneven skin texture, close large pores, and eliminate wrinkles by stimulating collagen growth.

The IPL Photofacial laser provides patients with the results of a medium depth peel without the down time or risk of a more invasive procedure.

What Does An IPL Photofacial Treat?

IPL Photofacial is a 30 minute procedure. This laser treatment helps remove redness, flushing, broken capillaries, fine lines and brown spots on your face. It also eliminates the redness and flushing of rosacea, as well as red acne scars. You will also see the disappearance of mottled skin as your skin takes on a nice, fresh glow. Overall, your appearance is much brighter and youthful-looking.

Am I A Candidate For IPL Photofacial Treatment?

The best candidates for IPL is someone with white, untanned skin. The candidate will also have visible signs of sun damage, acne, rosacea and pigmented acne scarring.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

You can see improvement with the first treatment, sometimes it takes until the 3rd treatment to start seeing the improvement. Patients usually do a series of 5 treatments and are usually done 3 – 4 weeks apart. During your consultation with Dr. Esta Kronberg she will discuss a treatment plan that will help achieve the results you are looking for.

Will IPL Photofacials Leave Scarring?

The IPL Photofacial treatment is a gentle skin resurfacing treatment that can cause some skin peeling afterward. While this peeling is a normal part of the recovery, a patient’s best practice is to avoid peeling the skin off and to let it fall off on its own or gently when you next wash your face. IPL treatment itself won’t cause additional scarring to the face, but force peeling your skin off might.

Are There Any Side Effects With IPL Photofacials?

Like any other skin resurfacing treatment, IPL Photofacials can come with a few side effects that patients should be aware of.

The most common side effect of IPL is redness on the face. However, this will subside within two to five days of your treatment. Patients may experience temporary stinging or burning from the laser during treatment, but these sensations typically don’t last longer than your treatment time. After your treatment, your skin may feel raw, sore, tender, and sunburnt. You may also experience blistering or peeling. These are all common side effects that will subside after a full recovery.

Under the care of board-certified dermatologist Dr. Esta Kronberg and our highly experienced team, these side effects can be easily managed and taken care of properly to prevent long-lasting scarring and other skin issues that may undo the results of your IPL treatment.

How Long Will Recovery Take?

Facial redness may last for about two to five days after IPL. Age spots, freckles, and darker patches on the skin that have been treated may appear darker at first but will lighten after about seven days. Bruising, peeling, and crusting may last up to ten days. During this recovery period, it is best to avoid prolonged exposure and consistently wear protective sunscreen to prevent further skin damage and sensitivity, especially after laser treatment.

After ten days, most patients return to their routines and stop experiencing side effects and skin sensitivity. After a full recovery, you will begin to notice a more balanced tone, pigmentation, and appearance in your skin!

If you have any issues during your recovery period, it is highly recommended to contact our team so we can address your concerns and monitor your healing progress.

Is There Anything I Need to Do to Prepare for IPL Treatment?

During your first consultation, you will speak with Dr. Kronberg about your candidacy for IPL treatment and any actions you may need to take before your appointment. It is recommended to most patients that they avoid tanning beds, direct sunlight, and smoking before their IPL treatment. If you are taking medications, it’s also beneficial to consult your doctor about the effects of laser treatment and your medication, as some may make patients more sensitive to light than others.

What Results Can I Expect?

The laser is painless and you will gradually see improvement over 5 treatments. Each treatment is done every 3 to 4 weeks. There is absolutely no down time with this procedure. It is perfect for rejuvenating the face of very busy people. The results last years, but you will enhance and preserve your results if you do 1 every 6 months.
