What is a double chin?
You can blame gravity as much as fat accumulation for that junk going on under your chin. The skin on the neck and under the chin is at the mercy of unrelenting gravity and slackening that is a part of normal aging. Plus, there isn’t any bone to support these areas. Double chins, downward sagging of the skin under the chin, develop due to a variety of factors: gravity, weight gain, decreased collagen production that loosens the skin, and even genetics (some people simply have looser skin in this area).

How does Kybella work?
Kybella® is a simple idea. It is basically deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid occurs naturally in humans. Its job is to aid in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. You can see where this is going. Deoxycholic acid doesn’t differentiate between fat that you eat or fat that has accumulated under your chin. When Kybella® is injected into the fat beneath your chin, it breaks down the fat cells, just as it does with ingested fat. Once these fat cells are destroyed, not only does your profile return to a much slimmer, tighter appearance, but the ability to store future fat in the area is diminished because the fat cells are gone. This means that your double chin is gone for good, as long as you don’t put on a bunch of weight down the road.
I’ve heard about swelling with Kybella
The main side effect after Kybella® injections, particularly during your first session is possible swelling as the body initiates a healing response to the deoxycholic acid being introduced. Different patients have different degrees of this, and Dr. Kronberg’s experience with Kybella® comes into play. She’ll discuss this possibility with you during your consultation. Most patients choose to have between two and four Kybella® treatments; swelling usually is most prevalent after the first session.
