Say Goodbye to that Tattoo

Laser Tattoo RemovalTattoos always seemed like a good idea at the time. But as the years pass, those tattoos can begin to lose their luster. Sleeveless dress at that new job? Not with that dragon tattoo running down your arm. Girlfriend’s name on your chest. Uh, your wife’s not impressed.

Removing those tattoos used to be quite an ordeal, but Dr. Kronberg has many new options thanks to lasers.

How do lasers remove tattoos?

Lasers remove tattoos by shattering the pigment colors of the tattoo with a high-intensity light beam. For this reason, black tattoos are the easiest to remove because the color in the tattoo absorbs all of the various laser wavelengths. Tattoos with various colors require the use of certain lasers or settings depending on the color in question. Dr. Kronberg uses what is called a Q-switched laser.

In the procedure, topical anesthetic is usually used to numb the area. A handpiece is then placed on the portion of the tattoo being targeted and the laser is activated. A pulse feels like the snap from a rubber band.

Several treatments are needed to remove a tattoo, regardless of the size. After each subsequent treatment the tattoo becomes lighter and lighter.

Afterwards, ice is applied to the treatment area and you may need to apply an antibiotic cream. Larger areas will be covered with a patch or large bandage.
