‘Tis the Season for Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal Houston TX Spring brings a mix of weather to Houston. Some days are feeling summery, others are still holding on to winter. Regardless of the weather, it’s a great time to get ready for full-on summertime by getting rid of that unwanted hair with Dr. Kronberg’s laser hair removal.

Isn’t it about time?

Everyone loves our hair removal routines, right? Shaving, plucking, tweezing, waxing, and applying depilatory creams that are closer to napalm than lip balm — it’s all good, right? Wrong. It’s so Sisyphusean. You get rid of the hair and then a few weeks later you do it all over again. How different is that than rolling a boulder uphill all day in Hades, then watching it roll back down at day’s end, only to do it again the next day…for eternity.

Sounds kind of like shaving your legs!

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal puts the power of laser energy to work getting rid of hair permanently, without harming the skin or superficial tissues. Dr. Kronberg uses the Gentlase® laser, a 755-wavelength laser that is very safe and effective.

Laser hair removal works on two levels, immediate and permanent. First, the energy from our Gentlase® laser vaporizes hair in the follicle in the treatment area. This occurs when the hair absorbs the laser energy and it converts to heat. This causes the hair to immediately fall out. But the second level is more important. The heat energy travels down the hair shaft into the hair follicle at the base of the hair. There, the heat energy permanently damages the hair follicle, precluding it from producing hair in the future.

The growth cycle matters

People wonder why multiple appointments are required to get rid of 80 percent or more of hair in a target area. This is due to the human hair growth cycle. Hair can be in the anagen (growth), catagen (transitional), or telogen (resting) phase. Laser energy works effectively when hair is in the anagen cycle, as the hair is actively rooted in the follicle and is growing. When hairs are in the catagen or telogen phases, they are in the process of disconnecting from the follicle and eventually falling out (shedding), so the energy can’t pass down the hair shaft into the follicle effectively. The goal is to catch as many hairs as possible in the anagen phase, but because every one of our over three million hairs operates independently, there’s no guarantee how many hairs will be in the growth phase at any time.

Most patients with Dr. Kronberg need from 4-6 laser hair removal sessions to achieve the degree of permanent hair decrease they seek.
