What is laser scar removal?
Laser scar removal is a non-invasive approach to scar treatment that delivers excellent results without the discomfort and downtime involved with surgery. How it works
Laser scar treatment uses short pulses of high-energy laser light to penetrate into the skin’s dermis layer (the second layer beneath the outer epidermis), initiating a wound response in the skin’s support structure. Believing it is wounded, the body’s healing process seeks to remove older, damaged skin cells, and produce new collagen and elastin (the two crucial proteins that are responsible for both the skin’s support structure and its elasticity). As time goes on your results continue to improve as the body builds new collagen and elastin.
Does skin color matter?
Unlike some procedures such as dermabrasion that can affect skin pigmentation, laser scar removal works on most skin types. It can be used on very light or very dark skin, as well.
How long does a session take, and how many will I need?
Dr. Kronberg needs only around 30 minutes for your laser scar removal treatment. This, of course, depends on the size of your treatment area. Generally, it takes from three to seven treatment sessions to get the final look you seek.
What about recovery?
While you may have some temporary redness and swelling at the treatment site, this should only last a couple days. Most people are able to return to their normal activities immediately following their laser scar removal session.
