Facial Skin, Come Into the Intense Pulsed Light

In sunny Houston, we all have more age spots and overly pigmented areas of sun damage than we’d like to really admit, much less think about. Dr. Kronberg offers Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacials to get rid of these spots and to address other skin issues, improving your skin on the face and other areas.

What is an Intense Pulsed Light?

IPL is similar to laser light, but it delivers a wider wavelength variety to the skin. Lasers deliver a single wavelength, which can be very effective when addressing things like unwanted hair with laser hair removal. Match the laser wavelength to the hair color and it can be very precise. By delivering a wider spectrum of light energy, IPL can be a better treatment for a wider assortment of skin imperfections.

What is an Intense Pulsed Light photofacial?

IPL photofacials with Dr. Kronberg are non-invasive treatments that aim to rejuvenate the skin by eliminating brown spots, red spots, and areas of darker pigmentation. The pigmented areas are the result of sun damage.

In an IPL photofacial, the light energy is directed onto the target areas. It passes through the epidermis and the light energy is absorbed by the darker pigments in the age and sun spots. The energy converts to heat and breaks up the melanin in these spots. This disperses the darker pigments. These affected spots initially darken and then rise to the outer layer of the skin where they become dry and peel away, revealing non-pigmented younger skin beneath.

Can anyone have an IPL photofacial?

As with laser procedures, IPL photofacials are best for patients with lighter skin tones. This presents the most contrast between the skin color and the darker age spots. For patients with darker skin tones, IPL is not a good treatment, as it can create areas of hyperpigmentation. Radiofrequency procedures are better in these patients.

Where can I use IPL photofacials?

These can be used across the body, but most patients opt for the face and neck. These are the areas you can have a photofacial:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Hands
  • Shoulders
  • Legs
  • Arms
