These days everyone’s a photographer, and half the time the subject is ourselves! You could be tempted to think of it as a photofacial, but you’d be wrong. A photofacial is far more satisfying!
Dr. Kronberg uses IPL photofacials to freshen skin that the sun has done a number on, and there’s no shortage of that here in sunny Houston.
What is an IPL photofacial?
A photofacial is a 30-minute procedure in which intense pulses of light (IPL) are used to penetrate deeply into the skin. This energy delivered beneath the epidermis causes collagen and blood vessels under the epidermis to constrict. This reduces redness, fine wrinkles, and causes sun spots to peel off. The procedure involves only very minimal discomfort.
Who would benefit from a photofacial?
Sun damage is the thing here. People with blotchy, sun-damaged skin are good candidates. So are those who have overly large pores, freckles, or fine wrinkles.
Those with tanned or darker skin tones aren’t good candidates for photofacials, as the light energy can cause changes in pigmentation.
What are the benefits of an IPL photofacial done?
IPL photofacials freshen skin damaged by the sun. The procedure eliminates red and brown skin discolorations. It treats the lesions and scarring caused by acne. It reduces broken capillaries creating those squiggly little red lines on your face, and it eliminates or thoroughly decreases the redness and flushing of rosacea. The bottom line is more even skin tone and a younger-looking countenance. It can be equated to the benefits from a medium-depth chemical peel, without the recovery time.
How many IPL sessions will I need?
Benefits from this procedure aren’t immediate. This is because the energy is delivered beneath the surface skin into the dermis below. There the energy triggers many skin-improving effects. Usually, Dr. Kronberg recommends five treatments spaced out every three to four weeks for optimum results. Your results will start showing themselves around the time of your third treatment, and they keep improving after that.
